Dr Premila completed her medical degree MBBS in 1986 from Kilpauk Medical College Chennai (Madras University) and was doing general practice at Kochi (Kerala) for 25 years.

Dr Premila has also completed a full-time Post graduation course from the National Institute for the mentally challenged (Secunderabad – Osmania University) this course specialises in Child development Family counselling and Early intervention especially in developmentally delayed children.
Founded an NGO for differently-abled children at Kochi, Kerala in 1996 and this institute got the prestigious best Special school award in the state in 2009 Presently the Institute is being managed by Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences
Up to date certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advance Life support (PALS).
